Why you can't unlink an account

Find the Unlink button when an account's row doesn't show one, and what to do if unlinking fails.

You can unlink any account you have linked. If you can't find the button, or it doesn't work, check these in order.

On Settings › Accounts, a row shows Unlink only when the account is paused, or when ContactZapp can't read it. For any other account, the button isn't there, and that is how it works. Unlink it from the account's own panel instead:

  1. Open your account menu and tap Settings. Then tap Accounts.
  2. Tap the settings icon of the account. Its label is Configure followed by the account's name.
  3. Tap Unlink this account.
  4. A second box repeats the card. Tap Unlink this account again to confirm.

For what unlinking does to your contacts, see Unlink an account.

The account is your billing identity

You can still unlink it. The card says "You can still sign in with this account after you unlink it, because it's your billing identity." To change your billing identity, use your billing portal. See Manage your sign-in identities.

The account says ContactZapp can't read it

The row says "ContactZapp can't read this account. Unlink it, then link it again." Tap Unlink on its row, then link the account again.

Unlinking fails

If you see "We couldn't save this change. Try again in a moment.", the account is still linked. Wait a moment and unlink it again. The button is disabled while an unlink is running, so give it a moment before you try again.

If something goes wrong

If the message keeps coming back, contact support. Say which kind of account it is (Google, Microsoft, iCloud or CardDAV) and quote the message you see.

Why can't I unlink this account?

You can unlink any account. On Settings › Accounts, a row shows Unlink only when the account is paused or can't be read. For other accounts, open the account with the gear button and press Unlink this account at the bottom of the panel, then confirm. If you unlink the account you sign in with for billing, you can still sign in with it, because it's your billing identity. Contacts that came only from the unlinked account are hidden, and ContactZapp erases its own copy 30 days after you unlink it. Linking the account again within that time brings them back. If you link the account again after that, ContactZapp rebuilds those contacts from the account itself. If it fails with "We couldn't save this change", try again in a moment.
