Read the sync panel
See what your sync is doing, what the figures count, and what to do when the panel asks for attention.
The sync panel tells you what ContactZapp is doing with your accounts right now, and what the last sync did. Looking at it changes nothing. There is no separate Dashboard screen. The panel is on every screen.
Open the panel
- Tap Sync details in the top bar. The button next to it starts or stops a sync. It reads Start syncing, Sync now, Stop Sync or Try again, depending on the state.
- Read the panel. Tap Sync details again to close it.
When something needs you, the status in the top bar reads Attention, or Failed if the sync failed. Open the panel to see what.
When nothing is running
The panel's title is All synced. If the newest sync didn't finish, it is Not fully synced. The next line says when the next check happens:
- Next check in a time, such as 8:21 (hours and minutes).
- Manual sync only. ContactZapp checks only when you tap Sync now.
- Next sync due now.
- Next sync not scheduled. On an automatic schedule, you see this until you tap Start syncing.
Under it, Check for changes lets you switch between Hourly, Daily and Manual only. See Change how often ContactZapp checks.
Last run shows how the newest sync ended and when, a one-line summary, and two figures:
- Duplicates to review. The contacts that still have a duplicate waiting for your decision. It is a running total, not what the last sync found. It stays the same until you decide on the duplicates. To decide, see Review a duplicate.
- Contacts updated. The contacts the last run changed.
With no sync run yet, the panel shows None instead.
See all runs opens the Sync log. Sync settings opens Settings.
While a sync is running
The title names the account, such as Syncing and the account's name. The panel shows:
- A bar and a percentage. They count finished steps, not time. A sync has one step for each provider it reads, one for finding duplicates, and one for each account it updates. The panel doesn't estimate how long is left. If the bar isn't moving, it may say Sync progress is not available yet.
- The steps. For example Reading Google and Finding duplicates. Each is Done, In progress or Waiting.
- One line for each account. For example "Google Workspace · 184 contacts read". That is how many contacts the account returned, not how many changed. There is no total to compare it with.
- Happening now. The latest actions.
Tap Stop in the panel, or Stop Sync in the top bar, to stop the sync.
What the other titles mean
- "{account} asked us to slow down — still syncing". The account's service is limiting how fast we can read. The bar waits. Nothing to do.
- Looking for duplicates. Only the duplicate check is running. Stop cancels it. The panel then says "Stopped looking for duplicates. The next sync checks them again."
- Backing up {account}. There is no Stop for a backup.
- Updating your accounts. The sync has finished. Changes are still going to your accounts. The panel shows how many "account updates left". A change that belongs in 3 accounts counts 3 times. The panel says "Sync finished. Your accounts are still catching up — nothing to do."
- Stopping sync for {account}. The sync is stopping.
When the panel asks for attention
Your contacts are safe in each case. Find what the panel says:
- Sync failed for {account}. Tap Try again in the top bar. If it fails again, open the Sync log.
- A change needs attention, with "A change couldn't be updated on {account}". One contact's change was refused, not your whole sync. Tap See the change. The Sync log lets you retry it.
- {account} needs reauthorizing to keep syncing. Tap Reauthorize. It opens Settings. See Reauthorize an account.
- Changes for {account} are waiting — this account is paused. Tap Resume this account. If the account is paused over your plan's limit, the button is See plans. See Pause or resume an account. A date such as "Will be disconnected on" may appear.
- Changes for {account} are waiting — no address book is selected. Tap Choose an address book, or pause the account.
- Sync needs attention, with "{account} needs attention" and a line such as "Contact matching failed and will retry automatically". The line names the task that failed. A time follows "Next retry:". Tap Retry now to try at once. Tap Dismiss to clear the message.
- "{count} contacts need your attention to finish syncing." Tap Review. It opens the Sync log, where each of these changes has Retry now and Stop syncing this change.
If an account shows a warning in Settings, see An account shows a warning.
Plan notes
When you reach a plan limit, a plan box in the navigation carries a note:
- "Your address book contains {total} contacts. Only the first {limit} sync."
- "{count} contacts stay unsynced on the free plan."
- "{account} is paused and not syncing."
Tap its info button, About these limits — opens Plan & billing, to see your plan. See See your plan and what you use.
If something goes wrong
- "Sync could not be started. Try again." Tap the button again.
- "Sync could not be stopped. Try again." Tap Stop again.
- "No sync is running. Your accounts are still catching up — nothing to do." The sync had already finished. The updates are still going to your accounts.
- A sync is slow or hasn't run. See A sync is slow or hasn't run.
