Search and filter contacts
Find a contact by any word on it, then narrow the list by status or by account.
Search finds contacts by any word on them. The filters narrow the list by status or by account. You can use both together. Neither changes your contacts.
Search for a contact
- Tap Contacts.
- Type in the box that says Search any field (name, email, phone, company…).
- Press Enter. There is no search button.
We search every field of a contact, including labels, address and notes. Typing the start of a word is enough: mont finds Montandon. With several words, a contact matches when it has all of them. A phone number is found by any run of its digits, such as the last 4.
To go back to the full list, clear the box. When a search is running, the line under the filters reads, for example, "12 of 340 contacts".
Filter by status
Under the search box, tap one of the status buttons:
- All
- Synced
- Need review
- Not synced
- Frozen
- Deleted
Each button shows how many contacts it holds. Need review holds the possible duplicates and the contacts whose values disagree. Frozen only appears when you have contacts over your plan's limit. Deleted holds the contacts you deleted, so you can restore them. See Review a duplicate for the first one.
To see what each status means, tap What the statuses mean.
Filter by account
- Find the row of account icons next to the status buttons.
- Tap an icon to show only that account's contacts. Its name reads "Only" followed by the account.
- Tap the icon again, or tap Any, to show every account.
Clear the filters
Once a filter is on, a row starting Showing lists each active filter. Tap Clear all to remove them. Changing a filter also clears any contacts you had ticked.
Change the order
Without a choice from you, the newest changes come first. Where the list shows column headers, tap Contact, Labels, Modified or Status to sort by that column. Tap it again to flip the direction. Reloading the screen returns to the default order.
If something goes wrong
- "No contacts yet". No account is connected. Tap Connect an account.
- "Bringing your contacts in". The first sync is still running. The contacts appear as they arrive. Nothing to do.
- "No matches for …". We searched every contact and none matched. Tap Clear search, or try a shorter word.
- "No contacts match these filters". Tap Clear filters.
- A contact you expect is missing. Check Deleted and Frozen first. Then check that the contact's labels are turned on for its account under Which labels to sync. See the linked answer on searching and filtering.
- "We couldn't load your contacts". Your contacts are safe. Tap Try again.
