Roll back a contact
Put one contact back to how it was just before a change, and see exactly what changes first.
Rolling back returns one contact to how it was just before a change. It also undoes everything after that change. You can't roll back a single field.
Steps
- Tap Contacts. Search for the contact and open it.
- Find Recent changes.
- Find the change you want to undo. Tap the roll back icon on that row. Its name is Roll back to here.
- Read What changes. Each account shows the current value crossed out and the value it goes back to. A field that goes back to empty reads "Not set".
- Tap the button that starts "Roll … back to". Or tap Cancel.
To see everything that happened to the contact, tap All history.
What happens next
The contact is back as it was just before that change. Your accounts are updated on the next sync.
The roll back shows in History like any other change. You can roll it back too.
If something goes wrong
- No roll back icon on a row. A possible match is not a change, and the contact's first row has nothing before it.
- "We couldn't roll back this contact." Try again in a moment.
- The change is more than 12 months old. History keeps 12 months. The dialog says This can no longer be restored and has only an OK button.
- An account is paused. Its changes are made when the account comes back online. Until then it keeps the current values.
- An account has no address book selected. The roll back skips it, and the dialog names it.

Can I undo a merge if it picked the wrong information?
Yes. Right after you merge duplicates by hand in Review duplicates, an Undo button shows for 15 seconds. After that, open History (or the contact's change history), choose the moment before the merge, and use Roll back to here. We show you exactly what will change before you confirm.
Rolling back splits the merged contact back into the separate contacts and restores their earlier values. It also undoes every later change to that contact, so you can't pick one field to undo. History keeps 12 months, so a merge older than that can't be rolled back.
