Edit a contact
Change a contact's details in ContactZapp, save once, and send the change to your two-way accounts.
You can change any detail of a contact in ContactZapp. We keep the change, add it to History, and send it on to your accounts. You can roll it back afterwards.
Before you start
You can't edit a contact that is waiting for duplicate review, or one in Deleted. For a duplicate, see Review a duplicate. For a deleted contact, restore it first.
Steps
- Tap Contacts. Find the contact and open it.
- Tap Edit.
- Change what you need. Each box holds one value. Email, phone and address can hold several, each with a type and a value.
- To add a detail the contact doesn't have yet, tap Add a field and pick one. To find it faster, type in Search fields…. Under Name, tap Middle name, prefix, suffix to add those three.
- To remove a value in a list, tap Remove. To remove a whole field, clear it. It disappears.
- Under Phone or Email, drag a row to reorder. The main number is the one other apps dial first.
- Tap Save. Or tap Discard to throw your changes away.
Until you change something, the bottom of the form reads "No changes yet." After that it counts your unsaved edits and says where they go. If you tap Discard with unsaved edits, we ask Discard … unsaved edits? Tap Keep editing to go back, or Discard to confirm. Nothing has been sent to your accounts at that point.
To change a contact's labels, see Use labels.
What happens next
The contact is saved in ContactZapp and the change is added to History. We send it to each of your two-way accounts that holds the contact, at the next sync. Read-only accounts are never changed. A paused account gets the change when you resume it. Check the Sync log for the result.
Two cases stay in ContactZapp only. One is a contact that is over your plan's limit. The other is a contact with no account connected yet. The form tells you which one applies.
To undo a change, see Roll back a contact.
If something goes wrong
- "Not saved. This contact changed after you opened it." Another change reached the contact while you were editing. Your edits stay on screen. Tap Load latest to open the newer version, then make your changes again. If the button is greyed out, wait a moment while we fetch it.
- "Not saved. This contact was merged into another contact." Discard your edits, then open the merged contact.
- "Not saved. This contact was deleted." Discard your edits, or restore the contact from the Contacts list first.
- "Not saved. This contact has a duplicate review waiting." Tap Review this one, finish the review, then edit.
- "That is not a real date." Check the day and the month of the date marked in the form. You can leave the year blank.
- "Could not save. Your edits are still here — try again." Tap Save again. If it keeps failing, close the contact, open it again and redo the edit.
- A warning about a phone or email deleted in one account. The contact needs review. Check the values, then save. Saving clears the warning.
- There is no Edit button. The contact is deleted, or it is waiting for duplicate review. See Before you start.

If I edit a contact here, where does the change go?
When you save an edit, ContactZapp keeps it, adds it to History, and sends it to each of your accounts that holds this contact and is two-way. Read-only accounts are never changed. A paused account gets the change when you resume it.
Two cases stay in ContactZapp only: a contact that is over your plan's contact limit, and a contact with no account connected yet. If the contact changed while you had the form open, we don't save over the newer version. A contact that is waiting for duplicate review can't be edited until you finish that review.
