Create a contact
Add a new contact in ContactZapp, choose the account it is saved to, and let the sync copy it to your other two-way accounts.
You can add a contact in ContactZapp without opening one of your address books. You choose the account it is saved to. We then copy it to your other two-way accounts.
Before you start
You need at least one connected account. New contacts can only be saved to a two-way account. If none of your accounts is two-way, the form says "New contacts need a two-way account. Make one of your accounts two-way in Settings." Create stays greyed out until you do. See Set an account to read-only for how to change an account's direction.
Steps
- Tap Contacts.
- Tap New contact.
- Under Save to, choose the account the contact is saved to. Only two-way accounts that have an address book chosen are listed.
- Fill in the details. Email and Phone are on the form already, with one empty box each. To add any other detail, tap Add a field and pick one.
- Tap Create contact. It stays greyed out until you have typed something. Tap Cancel to close the form without saving.
The form says "Creates the contact in" followed by the account you chose.
If ContactZapp finds a match
Before it saves anything, we check your contacts for the same person. If we find one, the form is replaced by You may already have this contact. It says "Nothing is saved yet." Each match is shown with its name, email, phone and company. You have three choices:
- Add to this contact. We fill in empty fields on that contact and add the new emails and numbers. We never change what the contact already has.
- Create a new contact. We save what you typed as a separate contact. We remember that the two are not the same person, so they aren't flagged as a duplicate straight away.
- Back. You return to the form with everything as you typed it.
What happens next
We open the new contact. If you added to a match, we open that contact instead.
We write the contact to the account you chose with the next changes we send out. After that, the sync copies it to your other two-way accounts. Read-only accounts are never changed.
History shows "You added" and the contact's name. You can roll the contact back to before that moment, which moves it to Deleted.
To change it later, see Edit a contact.
If something goes wrong
- "Could not create the contact. What you typed is still here — try again." Tap Create contact again. Nothing you typed is lost.
- "This account can't take new contacts any more. Choose another one." The account you picked stopped accepting new contacts after you opened the form. Choose another account under Save to, then tap Create contact.
- "This account can't take new contacts any more." with no other account to pick. No two-way account is left. Change an account to two-way first.
- A message under the matches that starts "Not saved." We couldn't add your details to that contact. These are the same messages as when you edit a contact. See Edit a contact.
- "That is not a real date." Check the day and the month of the date marked in the form. You can leave the year blank.
- There is no New contact button. It shows only when you have at least one connected account.

If I edit a contact here, where does the change go?
When you save an edit, ContactZapp keeps it, adds it to History, and sends it to each of your accounts that holds this contact and is two-way. Read-only accounts are never changed. A paused account gets the change when you resume it.
Two cases stay in ContactZapp only: a contact that is over your plan's contact limit, and a contact with no account connected yet. If the contact changed while you had the form open, we don't save over the newer version. A contact that is waiting for duplicate review can't be edited until you finish that review.
